Stachys officinalis 'bishop's wort' (wood betony)

Stachys officinalis is a perennial that is noted for its showy late spring flower bloom. Large dark green leaves (to 5” long) form a basal clump to 10-12” tall. Flowering stems are upright and rise to 12” above the foliage clump in late spring to early summer. Stems are topped with a spike of purple tubular flowers. Clumps will spread over time to form a dense ground cover. This species of Stachys is grown primarily for its vivid flower display unlike many other Stachys grown for their woolly grey foliage.
