The various interlocking cuts creates a colorful pattern that highlights the warmhues of cherry wood. Best of all, blended countertops offer a look similar to end grain but at a third of the cost. John Boos also sources cherry wood from North American suppliers with sustainability practices. Finish Options: Boos oil is a food safe, penetrating oil made up of the same formulation as Boos' famous Mystery Oil. This is the standard finish applied in the factory and provides protection against water and stains by being absorbed into the wood fibers. Oil finishes should be maintained every 3 to 4 weeks with additional application of oil. Varnique is a semi-gloss finish that is virtually maintenance free. It protects the wood surface with a chemically resistant layer that is easy to clean with simple soap and water. This is the recommended finish if you will use the countertop for dining or serving and not actual food preparation.
