Polonaise rugs are a type of patterned rugs erroneously named after the Polish and Prussian houses that once commissioned these baroque style ornate designs from Persian weavers. Modern academia has correctly placed these as Persian rugs, but there commissioned graphics of Polish crests and European inspired patterns solidified the name for these area rugs to the French tastemakers that "rediscovered" them in the 1800's.  This is just one example of the many
