The Jewish day begins and ends at sundown. For example, the Jewish day of worship is Saturday, but starts on Friday after sundown and ends on Saturday at sundown. That goes for all the holidays, they all start the day before at sundown. Depending on the season, sundown is a different time. Jesus would have very clear knowledge of all of these.
