Almost everybody knew the song and in the song there’s a phrase that says“ all at once” - describing what happened to this old cowboy, while he was out riding on the range, he saw something that frightened him and shook him up, where he saw the devil's heard of cattle stampeding across the sky in the clouds, and the spirits of old cowboys who had passed away and gone to hell. It was their job to heard that bunch of cattle across the skies forever, and one of the cowboys in the sky saw the old cowboy down there on the ground on his horse
