Highly rare vintage signature in blue ballpoint pen on a 3x5-inch tan card, acquired in-person by an inveterate autograph hound in the 1950s and decorated with a small Players Directory image of the star. In good condition. Gorgeous singer and film star Dorothy Dandridge was the first African-American to be nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award, for Carmen Jones in 1954. Five years later, she earned further accolades for her title role in the film adaptation of George Gershwin's Porgy and Bess (1959). Dandridge committed suicide by an overdose of antidepressants at age 42 and her autograph is elusive in any format.
