Scarce vintage inscribed black fountain pen signature-- choice in that it is not given as "Jimmy Dunn," as was his custom, but as "James Dunn"-- on a 4x5-inch tan album page, acquired in-person in 1940. In good condition, with very neat trimming to the edges. Affable character actor James Dunn was unforgettable as ill-fated, pipe-dreaming inebriate Johnny Nolan in A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (1945), a complex and moving performance which earned him an Academy Award. He was elsewhere memorable in Bright Eyes (1934) and Baby Take a Bow (1934) with Shirley Temple; Hearts in Bondage (1935); and The Living Ghost (1942).
