It left Horace with a badly disfigured right hand forcing him in later life as a musician to rely heavily on his left hand. Thus he developed an incredibly forceful left hand style of chording that he would accompany with his crippled right hand. Known as a hard and post bop player Horace gained his reputation playing with the likes of Sonny Stitt and Charles Mingus (AMSC1026), Eddie “Lockjaw” Davis (AMSC1309), Lou Donaldson, Dexter Gordon (AMSC1199) and Stanley Turrentine (AMSC1319).
