About A Monograph of the Phasianidae or Family of the Pheasants was published in the late 1800s and is considered a seminal work on the pheasant family. It was written by Daniel Giraud Elliot, an American zoologist and ornithologist, and the illustrations were done by Joseph Wolf, a German artist who was known for his natural history illustrations. The pheasant family, Phasianidae, is a group of birds that includes over 200 species. Some of the more well-known species include the common pheasant, the red junglefowl (the wild ancestor of domestic chickens), the peafowl (which includes the Indian peafowl and the green peafowl), and the turkeys. Other species in the family include quail, partridges, grouse, and francolins. Many of these birds are game birds and are hunted for their meat and feathers.
