About Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) was a Japanese artist and printmaker, widely regarded as one of the most important figures in the ukiyo-e tradition of woodblock printing. Throughout his long career, Hokusai worked in a variety of styles and media, including painting, illustration, and book design. He was known for his technical skill and his ability to capture the essence of his subjects with minimal means. His work had a profound impact on the development of Japanese art and influenced many Western artists, including Vincent Van Gogh and Claude Monet. Hokusai continued to work prolifically well into his eighties, producing some of his most iconic and celebrated works in his final years. In addition to his larger, more detailed works, Hokusai also created numerous sketches and drawings throughout his life, often in a quick and spontaneous manner. These sketches were often simple, almost minimalist, and focused on capturing the essence of his subject with a few well-placed lines. Hokusai's minimalist approach to drawing was also evident in his later years, when he focused more on exploring the expressive potential of simple, spare lines.  Image Specifications All images in this download are 2500px by 3500px @300ppi in .jpg How to Download You can download the files directly through the order confirmation page.
