We use a CTC grade robust Indian black tea as the base and blend aromatic fresh spices to make it a classic Indian tea. This tea is excellent either hot or iced. Although Masala Chai is traditionally meant to be sipped with milk and sugar, this tea works just fine solo. In Hindi, the official language of India, the word Chai, चाय, translates to tea. The world Masala, मसाला, translates to mixed spices. Therefore, Masala Chai, मसाला चाय, is translated as tea with mixed spices. Masala Chai is India's national drink. Every family in India makes Masala Chai different just like every baker in America makes a slightly different chocolate chip cookie. There is an Indian standard for Masala Chai and it's definitely not the concentrate based version that you find in American coffee chains.
