Compiler: Retrospect Publishing The Chester County tax lists published in Volumes XI and XII of the Third Series of the Published Pennsylvania Archives contain the Proprietary Tax lists for Chester County, Pennsylvania for the following years 1765, 1766, 1767, 1768, 1769, 1771, 1774, 1779, 1780, 1781, and 1785. Taxpayers are listed by township and often the county tax lists include the acres, horses, cattle, sheep, and servants owned by the taxpayer. The Chester County, Pennsylvania tax lists in Volumes XI and XII of the Third Series of the Published Pennsylvania Archives also include the taxpayers for the area of Chester County that later became Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Researchers interested in Chester County genealogy, the early tax list can offer an interesting window into the neighborhood in which their ancestors lived.
