Selected Obituaries and Associated Newspaper Articles

These newspaper clippings were typed from a scrapbook compilation of the original obituaries. It is not a complete listing of all obits but includes a selection of people known to the original compiler, a member of the Herring family (a very common name in that area) not only for her family but for church and other friends she knew. The majority of the clippings were taken from the Pine Grove Herald and the Pottsville Republican as well as other local papers of the time. Articles name the parents and the maternal maiden names as well as listings of children and other details about the deceased. Do not let the late dates fool you. Many of the listings include people born in the mid to late 1800s including names of parents, grandparents, etc. depending on the obit. Sample Obituary: Mrs. Wm. N.
