York County Tax Lists

Compilers: Retrospect Publishing Volume XXI of the Third Series of the Published Pennsylvania Archives contains the York County Return of Taxables for the following years 1779, 1780, 1781, 1782, and 1783. Taxpayers are tallied by township and in some cases the number of acres, horses and cattle are also listed. The 1783 tax list includes a tally of the number of inhabitants for each household including the number of servants and African-Americans. Thus providing a census for York County, Pennsylvania. Genealogy researchers interested in Adams County, Pennsylvania might find these tax lists useful since taxpayers for the area of York County that later became Adams County are included on this CD.
