Many years ago, in a charming little town on the banks of the Danube River near the picturesque Carpathian Mountain Range, a young man began studying the art of fine chocolate making. Leopold Grunhut soon mastered the magic of fine chocolate confections and began creating masterpieces that were both a delight to the eye and delectable to taste. Soon his confections gained culinary renown and within five years his small operation grew to include four stores in town. Post WWII the company set sail to New York where Erwin Grunhut, son of founder Leopold, led the newly named Astor Chocolate. With his creativity, original thinking, and unique style, Astor’s reputation spread and they soon caught the attention of their first large-scale customer, Macy’s.
