Saddle Road

The Artist:  Christian Enns The Big Island’s Saddle Road cuts over the high-altitude “saddle” between Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, two of the most massive and amazing volcanic mountains on the planet. Both peaks are often both snow-capped in winter months. If you make the drive, try not to get distracted by the otherworldly landscape, which recently featured an active lava flow on the Mauna Loa side of the road.
