RAF Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Ia Dunkirk 1940 Combat Loss Relic Display

Royal Air Force (RAF) Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I Dunkirk 1940 combat loss. Section of very well-preserved linen from this aircraft's control surfaces with original brown and/or green camouflage paint (first several orders will receive a piece with both colors present), paired with Ron Cole's artwork of this aircraft in action over Dunkirk in May 1940.    This Spitfire was shot down on May 23, 1940, while in aerial combat with Bf 109s and Bf 110s of ZG 76. P/O John Gillies was taken prisoner and was later a part of the famous Great Escape from Stalag Luft 3 in 1944.  This piece of linen control surface was collected by Lt. Col. George B. Jarrett. Described in his hand as ‘Spitfire, Dunkirk, 1940,’ this material was gifted to aviation historian Robert Boehme for Christmas in 1949, while Jarrett was still in charge of the evaluation of foreign equipment at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Aberdeen Maryland. It was acquired by Ron Cole as part of the Boehme Estate in 2021.   Limited to only 75 -
