Description for INTRUDER FROM THE SEA by Gordon McDonell: It all began that Sunday on the beach at Santa Monica. Sam Freeman was sunning himself, trying to forget the insurance business. Surprise, then a vague uneasiness came over him when Johnny Oakes appeared, but Sam suspected nothing. Sam's wife Alice was keeping an eye on their young family, Pete and Janie. The instant Alice looked away Pete managed to get himself caught in the strong tide. There were grateful, of course, but Sam wished that someone else had saved Pete. Anyone but Johnny Oakes. Later, as Sam went far out after Alice, he saw a man swimming in her direction, apparently from the fishing boat off Pointe Dume. "Is it Friday today?" the man called to Alice. Suddenly Johnny Oakes was close by, swimming strongly toward the man. "Is it Friday today?" Johnny called. Together Johnny Oakes and "Friday" swam toward the beach..
