These placemats are woven in Atwater-Bronson lace and are fast to weave because they require only one shuttle. An effect known as "tracking” adds an interesting texture to the plain-weave areas of the cloth. (Tracking is the twill-like texture that can occur in plain weave with washing, usually a consequence of the degree of twist in warp and weft yarns.) The placemats are completely reversible. This weaving kit includes all the yarns needed to weave these Lace Placemats for Beginners and were designed by Carol Strickler for Long Thread Media. They were originally published in Handwoven, January/February 1991, pp. 58-59.
