Lace Placemats for Beginners

These placemats are woven in Atwater-Bronson lace and are fast to weave because they require only one shuttle. An effect known as "tracking” adds an interesting texture to the plain-weave areas of the cloth. (Tracking is the twill-like texture that can occur in plain weave with washing, usually a consequence of the degree of twist in warp and weft yarns.) The placemats are completely reversible. Yarns: 8/4 Rug Warp CottonsEquipment needed: 4-shaft loom; 14" weaving width; 12 dent reed; 1 shuttle.Finished size: 8 placemats 11 3/4" x 17" with 1" fringe on each end.
