White Crackled Donut Vase

This donut vase was thrown on the pottery wheel and the spout was added by hand. The piece was then fired in a raku kiln, in an intensely hot and oxygen-starved atmosphere. The glaze and clay were forced to create their own oxygen, resulting in dark crackles from the thermal shock of the process. The clay body is white and the glaze is clear, accentuating the contrasting crackles where the carbon from the firing has entered the piece.
