About Hamasho The Hamasho (meaning ‘serpent’) station is located in a village bearing the same name in Sidama — a well-known coffee-growing region. Daya Bensa established this station in 1996 and has expert knowledge of coffee growing in the region, having lived through much of the changes and growth of the coffee growing and exporting industry in Ethiopia. They’ve also had coffees earn recognition in the prestigious ‘Cup of Excellence’ competitions. Hamasho has a mix of rainy and sunny days and experiences benefits from its microclimate. The warmer days and cooler nights at this high elevation allows the beans to develop more slowly (read: more flavorful!). There’s over 600 smallholder farmers who contribute their cherries to this lot of heirloom varieties. Once they are brought on site, the cherries are depulped and immediately sealed in tanks for 3 days to ferment without using water. It’s then washed and dried on raised beds. This beautiful offering tastes fruity, bright, and sweet
