Kiyonza Hill - Rwanda
About Kiyonza Hill In Rwanda, most coffee growers bring their crop to a centralized washing station for processing because the average farm size is less than a hectare, which is extremely small! This means that, most of the time, coffee is only traceable to the washing stations. However, through the hard work of Emmanuel and Baho Coffee, this lot has been traced a bit further to an area called Kiyonza Hill, made up of cherries from 60 smallholder producers. This traceability work is time consuming and requires lots of coordination at the washing stations to make sure lots stay together throughout the entire journey through processing. But, the upside far outweighs the time & effort. It allows for direct connections to the growers which opens the door to long-term relationships that will help increase quality, consistency, and prices paid to growers. This coffee is processed at the Fugi Station, a hub for innovation and specialty-grade coffee. It’s owned by the formerly mentioned B
