A sweet small thing, made as a gift by an Emma to someone in 1903, as a message on the underside tells us, and she initialed the seascape painted on top EMW. I love the softness of the painting, which feels quite transportive to me, and is perfectly complemented by the green on the sides of the box, which lend it a bit more pop. Executed in watercolor, with a ball of gray wool string still inside, which pulls out easily through the tiny hole at the center of the lid. 3” d x 2 1/4” and in excellent condition.
