1911 Tramp Art Box with Chip Carved Stacks and Green-Gray Velvet
I typically go for old tramp art boxes completely covered with chip carved layers, but I really like the velvet on the exterior of this one, which appears to be a soft gray-green on a few of the sides and more of a gray-blue elsewhere, but I think it is probably all the same fabric which just sun faded in different ways, very much to the good in my opinion. I think it all makes for a nice combination of Victorian and folky, but with nice clean lines too. There is a key, but I've not been able to get it to engage, so I think perhaps the lock no longer functions, and it remains unlocks. With a crazy bright blue velvet interior that feels rather antithetical to the rest of it! 11 1/4” w 8 3/8” d x 6 3/4” t. Overall very good condition, sturdy and stable. There is a partial loss to one chip-carved strip at the rear on the lid, and a partial loss of one foot on the back side, not visible from the front and it still sits flat. Hinges are in very good condition, well attached and operating sm
