Beautiful Grid, Lovely 19th C. Needlepoint in Hand-dyed Wool with Backing

I purchased this 19th c. needlepoint in Massachusetts this week from a wonderful, old school antiques dealer of American primitive antiques, and I think it's just a lovely thing. Rare in my experience to find a antique needlepoint that is just pure pattern but not made into something else...but this piece was backed with cloth so I do guess just meant to be a mat. Beautiful hand-dyed color composing a satisfying grid with a lot of movement to it, I'd treat it like a painting (or a small Anni Albers weaving), mount it in a frame and hang it.  6 5/8 x 7 1/4 and in very good condition. Color probably softened a bit over time, all to the good.Maybe a few lost stitches, minor and not detracting. Stable, sound and not at all delicate.
