Great Old Folk Art Spotted Dog, Or Is It A Horse?

This guy is not tiny-- 5 1/2" tall and 6 3/4" long -- and is satisfyingly substantial; really a nice one, and quite old, with a great painted surface. With  all-over loosely dabbed brown spots and a two railed base that makes him super sturdy. I guess he is a dog, though those long legs and proud step make him seem a bit horse-like, too!  Nicely aged, with a little paint loss and roughness on the edge of the ear, nose, and base. The wood is 7/8" thick and the piece measures 1 7/8" across at the base.
