Peter Passuntino 1960s Tempera on Paper Painting of Black and Pink Mask
A couple more works on paper today by Peter Passuntino (b. Chicago, 1936), dating to the 1960s--this bold painting on paper of a face or mask, and a second more narrative sort of drawing. I find them both very full of humanity and emotion--this one making me think a bit of Picasso, and Matisse too, and very much of the sort of sorrow and search for meaning that transcends time. 13 7/8" x 10 3/4". Overall pretty good condition, with loss to lower right corner as evident and some tearing/roughness along bottom edge, which feel all of a piece with it. At the age of 18, Passuntino was selected to be in a group show at the Carnegie Institute, and at 19 he was selected for a one-man show at the Artist Guild in Chicago.
