Refrigeration is essential in the food industry for maintaining food quality and safety. Traditional systems often operate with fixed control set points, presenting significant opportunities for optimization through adaptive, intelligent control. This article presents DWEEN Cold, an AI-powered digital twin solution that optimizes refrigeration by dynamically adjusting evaporation pressure and temperature based on real-time analytics and forecasted cooling demand. Implemented at a frozen food manufacturing company that exports to nearly 40 countries, including the U.S., Japan, China, and South Africa (the company, Mantinga), this solution achieved a 24% reduction in electricity consumption. The plant’s cooling system includes a CO2 system for the freezers (1.583 MW), an NH3 system for cooling premises (3.859 MW), and a glycol system with plate heat exchangers (2.190 MW).
