WTG-126 Non-Ox Biocides

I. PURPOSEThis document provides a general guideline for the non-oxidizing biocides commonly used to control microbial growth in cooling water systems.  II. SCOPEThis guideline discusses the non-oxidizing biocides typically used to maintain microbial control in cooling water systems, including open evaporative recirculating cooling systems, once-through systems, and closed loop systems. Non-oxidizing biocides for macrofouling control due to biological organisms such as clams and mussels (mollusks) and associated debris will also be briefly discussed. Non-oxidizing biocides used in other areas such as paper making, process waters, and non-cooling water applications are excluded from this discussion.
