Antique Necklace : Rare Multi-Strand Bead Necklace From Bagan, Myanmar #448 Sold
Antique Necklace 448. Rare Multi-Strand Necklace From Bagan, Myanmar. 12 inches long with 10 strands of glass, turquoise, coral, beads of various sizes and shapes. Collected from the local villagers in Bagan who find them in the local river by straining large amounts of sand. This set of beads is very delicate and would need to be restrung to ware. I would recommend this be used as a study set of beads showing the diversity used. In very good condition considering the reported age of the 11th century. Bagan is an ancient city located in the Mandalay Region of Burma. From the 9th to 13th centuries, the city was the capital of the Kingdom of Pagan, the first kingdom to unify the regions that would later constitute modern Myanmar. During the kingdom's height between the 11th and 13th centuries, over 4,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas and monasteries were constructed in the Bagan plains alone, of which the remains of over 2200 temples and pagodas still survive to the present day.
