Remember My Barn?

Cartoonist Barney Tobey laments rural development and the transition of barns to restaurants in this original hand-drawn piece published in The New Yorker's July 21, 1980 issue.  Tobey was a mainstay of The New Yorker, publishing some 1200 pieces and 4 covers over 5 decades. Ink, ink wash, and white-out on what appears to be a medium-weight drawing paper.  Tobey's signature appears in the lower right corner.  The piece is matted under glass in a simple back wood frame, all included in the sale.  The framed piece measures 18.5" x 20.5" overall, and the visible cartoon measures 13" x 15.5".   Minor dings in the frame and a slight ripple to the drawing paper. A stray mark appears below the right end of the caption.  Overall, excellent condition and a prime example of Tobey's work.
