Table Lamp from Antique Delft Petrus Regout Chinoiserie—Petrus

Petrus (named in honor of the founder of the pottery) is a one-of-a-kind lamp lovingly handcrafted from an antique red Chinoiserie vase by Petrus Regout & Co. (later known as De Sphinx). It was made circa 1900. We’ve paired it with a green blue dupion silk custom contemporary lampshade made by an atelier near Amsterdam. (The pictures don’t quite do the luminous shade justice!) With a rare red background, the design includes blue medallions that depict glimpses into life in a garden with a pavilion, pond, birds and flowers. A hand fan and patterned ribbons of foliage connect the design. In 1834, Petrus Regout founded of one of the most famous Dutch potteries in Maastricht, Netherlands, later given the name De Sphinx. Next to the city of Delft, Maastricht was the other major city that was known for producing Delftware. Petrus Regout & Co./De Sphinx operated between 1899-1954.
