Philautia

Philautia (φιλαυτία): Philautia is self-love. It can be positive, promoting self-care and self-esteem, or negative if it turns into narcissism. Healthy Philautia is a positive form of self-love that involves caring for oneself, recognizing one's worth, and practicing self-compassion. It is considered essential for a balanced and fulfilling life. Unhealthy Philautia is excessive and narcissistic. It involves an inflated sense of self-importance, vanity, and a disregard for others. In excess, it can lead to selfishness and a lack of empathy.  The concept of philautia underscores the importance of maintaining a healthy balance between caring for oneself and being considerate of others in interpersonal relationships.
