Playground

Edition #43 Notes Playground was designed by artist Hugo Moura who lives in Portugal and goes by the studio moniker Xesta. Hugo's work centers around typography, textures, and lots of sketches big and small. A peek into Hugo's sketchbook is an absolute delight, and designing this edition with him allowed me many peeks and to experience quite a bit of that delight. To make sure Hugo's prolific doodling came through in the final design, we decided to add an EXTRA endsheet into the notebooks with some of his initial sketches. The cover of Playground was screen printed my me onto a textured corduroy fabric using pearlescent white ink. It's a cover that is fun to look at –  the contrast changes as the light shifts – and feel too. Inside you'll find a yellow lokta endsheet with an inky pattern Hugo illustrated, which I screen printed as well. This edition was without a doubt the most ambitious production yet, and for the both of us it felt like a playground of craft and design. We hope this edition inspires you to find the playground within.
