Modern equipment used for data or cellular/PCS systems will frequently be able to operate at or below the noise floor over a wider bandwidth. The equipment needs the clearest spectrum possible for efficient operation. Using a standard connector or equipment in the antenna, line and system will often create what is called "Passive Intermodulation" or simply put, a created signal that masks the wanted signal.
