Paperwhites

Another favorite tradition in the McVey household is our annual planting of paperwhite bulbs (aka narcissus), as well as amaryllis bulbs, and forcing them indoors.  It's such a treat to be able to watch something grow and thrive and BLOOM during the winter months when everything is so cold and gray outside!  Paperwhites are especially thrilling because of how quickly they grow!  You can measure with a ruler and see them grow literally an entire inch in a day! So, as I was thinking about my favorite holiday and winter florals to paint, Paperwhites were right up at the top of the list!  Whether you grow them at your house, too, or whether you struggle to keep green things alive ;), you can enjoy these beauties with zero effort and the best part is that you can pull them out and enjoy them again year after year!  Also, thanks to the coloring of this painting, it's not overtly "holiday" which means that you can enjoy it well into the new year and over the winter months!
