WHO: Thomas Allan is the executive chef at The Modern, which earned two Michelin stars. ABOUT: Thomas is one of New York’s most compelling culinary voices, known for leading the kitchen at The Modern, the two-Michelin-starred restaurant at the Museum of Modern Art. Born in England and raised in Canada and Texas, Thomas found his way to New York at just 19 and quickly immersed himself in the city’s highest levels of fine dining. After earning his Grand Diplôme from the International Culinary Center with an emphasis on French technique, he trained at culinary powerhouses including Blue Smoke, Eleven Madison Park, and Per Se, and even honed his craft in Paris under three-Michelin-starred chef Yannick Alléno at Le Meurice. Early in his career, he represented the USA in the Bocuse d’Or, finishing 10th in the world—a remarkable achievement at just 23 years old.
