WILLARD DOWNES ANTIQUE MID CENTURY MODERN ABSTRACT OIL ON BOARD

Amazing Mid Century abstract oil on board painting by Willard Downes. This composition has a cubist and abstract expressionist quality to it, it's very nicely float mounted in a simple white frame. The frame is about 1.25" thick, the overall size is 37" wide by 27" tall, the painting itself is float mounted and measures approx. 19.75"  x  29.75"   About the artist: Willard Alfred Downes (1908 - 2000)   Mr. Downes was born in Washington and grew up in Fredericksburg. He went to New York City at age 17 to pursue a career as an artist.    In New York, he attended the Art Students League, the National Academy of Design and the Industrial Arts School, and started a dual career as a commercial illustrator and fine-arts painter.   He illustrated books for the publishing companies Fawcett and Golden Books and cover art for hundreds of paperbacks such as Before It’s Too Late and Dangerous Legacy as well as press kits for movie companies.  He led a $15 million advertising campaign for Kent ci
