Tamamitsu Yakishime Kyusu
The Tamamitsu Yakishime Kyusu is made of the red clay fired in two steps with different temperatures. This produces a gradation of colors. Then, the pattern on the surface is made by hand using a blade. Although the potter knows through years of experience how the colors will appear, no two pieces will be the same, making each a one-of-a-kind gem. The low profile of this kyusu allows the tea leaves to open-up even with a small amount of hot water. More room in the pot means that the full flavor and aroma are extracted. This kyusu is suitable for shincha, high-grade sencha, and gyokuro made from young tea leaves. Not suitable for fukamushi-sencha.
