Dioptase Specimen (a) - Congo

Here I have one of a few Dioptase specimens from the Congo. The color on it is really striking – that deep emerald green that Dioptase is known for. It's interesting how it's pretty much exclusively green; you don't see it in other colors like some other minerals. The crystals on this one are well-formed, with good luster. You can clearly see the characteristic rhombohedral habit. It's not a particularly hard mineral, so the crystal faces tend to be quite sharp and well-defined.
