Peanut Butter Maker 13 x 20”, Digital Print on archival paper Signed & Numbered Limited Edition Print of 250 ©2007 Djibril N’Doye In Senegal, I grew up in a rural community, in the midst of agriculture, where this communal life influenced my own life greatly. The woman in this drawing is using a glass bottle filled with clean sand to weigh her ‘rolling pin’ to crush peanuts, through several stages, into peanut butter. This is a very traditional way to make it. One of the most popular peanut-based dishes is called “Maffé” and consists of a very rich sauce of peanut paste and tomato paste, with fish, or chicken or beef, and some chopped vegetables, served over white rice.
