A jack of all trades, he was also a poet, musician, geologist, miner, and entertainer. Trips with Maynard Dixon, Nicolai Fechin, Jimmy Swinnerton, Orpha Klinker, and Clyde Forsythe influenced his style. Combining a special beeswax mixture with his paints gave his landscapes a special luster. His illustrations appeared in the Los Angeles Times and the Saturday Evening Post.
