He studied art at Standford University in California. One of the second generation of artists to look to Europe, Ball moved to Paris in 1957. Ball studied with Stanley William Hayter at Atelier 17 in 1958 and he taught briefly at the workshop. With Haytera's support, Ball began showing internationally.
