About the Composition A Celtic Suite is a colourful and engaging suite of pieces for the progressing intermediate double bass quartet or ensemble. A wealth of harmonics are used to create evocative and atmospheric colours, alongside bass percussion, and low thumb position is introduced for basses 1 and 2. There are musical and technical challenges for each bassist and music which is descriptive and appealing. The Celtic peoples lived throughout much of continental Europe during the Iron Age. They are thought to have migrated to southern Britain sometime between the 12th and 6th century B.C. 'Dawn in the Glades' attempts to paint a musical portrait of the arrival of these first tribal groups as they settled in open landscapes that may have first been cleared by Neolithic farmers of ages past.
