About the Composer Clara Wieck Schumann gave her first piano concert at the age of eleven at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig. She was a pupil of her father Friedrich Wieck (1788-1873) who was also the piano teacher of Robert Schumann (1810-56). Clara Wieck and Robert Schumann were married in 1840. Throughout her life, Clara Schumann concertized throughout Europe. She was head of the piano department at Hoch Conservatory, Frankfurt-am-Main, 1879-92. Also, she edited Robert Schumann’s early letters and complete works. About the Composition The piano part of Romance No.3 is a brilliant example of the musicality of Clara Schumann. About the Editor Lucas Drew, after a distinguished career of more than 40 years of teaching and performing is now Professor Emeritus at the University of Miami Frost School of Music and Principal Double Bass Emeritus of the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra. Also, he is Founder/Artistic Director Emeritus of the Highlands - Cashiers (NC) Chamber Music Festival (1982-1999).
