It has three colourful and engaging movements, with the emphasis on the singing and lyrical possibilities of the double bass, alongside an enjoyable piano accompaniment which is both independent yet support. Lyric Sonata is written entirely in bass clef and offers accessible and interesting study or concert repertoire for the progressing bassist. Armand Russell composed a wealth of double bass music for younger players, each piece offering a range of musical and technical challenges, and all written in a confident, appealing and easily approachable style. Lyric Sonata is only available in orchestral tuning. About the Composer Armand Russell was born in Seattle, Washington in 1932. He received the Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from the University of Washington, with a major in music composition, and a Doctorate in music composition from the Eastman School of Music.
