About the Composition This work is an exploration of harp harmonic technique on the double bass (see my video explaining the basic technique for more info: Zola uses an ostinato in seven four in the right hand, while melodies move above and around it in the left hand. Using harp harmonics allows us as bassists to both accompany and play the melody at the same time, like a pianist. In order to create different tonal space with the naturally occurring harmonics on the instrument, this piece uses a scordatura tuning that lowers the top string a whole step and raises the bottom string a half step. Included in the score are four versions of the piece, one which is meant to be read as if in standard tuning, and three at pitch; versions for orchestral, solo, and high C tuning, respectively. I hope you enjoy it, and please reach out to me if you have any questions! About the Composer Curiosity, commitment, and collaboration define Jacob Warren’s exceptional career as a multi-style double bass
