No MDF or particleboard is used. A slat kit is included, making this bed mattress ready. No need to purchase a bunkie board or box spring. The bunk bed can be down-stacked creating 2 beds (one twin and one full). All Discovery World Furniture bunk beds are tested and certified to meet the ASTM 1427-21 regulations set forth by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
