The character at the bottom of the painting is Drew's representation of Rick Griffin himself, as one of his characters, inspired by Hopi Indian works.  Drew believes that Griffin was enlightened, he understood and saw things differently. His ideas and art were innovative, only a handful of artists were doing radical art like Griffin at that time period.
