They are soft and non-irritating. The way the manufacturer describes using these, it's a sort of multi-purpose thing. You warm up your compress, you put this on top - keep it clean, keep makeup off, etc. The warm compress process moistens the sheet, which you then use to wipe your eyes. Personally, I think I'd be more likely to use a spray or something on it for additional cleansing, but for those who want to keep it simple, it's good to have an option free from any additions.
